Get a book on it, not just the booklet that comes with the cards. Starred for my contacts

Get The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Tarot –

Its really a good book.

There are loads of starter kits you can buy in bookstores for good prices. They don’t give answers, as such, but might help with your understanding. You might want to buy some books on this (check the Internet beforehand – some stuff is a bit dodgy) and other subjects.

Also, you don’t have to be psychic to read tarot. And maybe you’re just a good judge of character.

Understanding and handling the Tarot Cards?
I recently purchased my very first tarot deck a few days ago. Though I’m actually a Buddhist, I’ve always been interested in tarot since I was ten (I’m now 20). Anyways so upon searching for a deck, the one I chose just felt right to me. Im not sure if this is significant but I do feel a connection. I am a very intuitive person and I wanted a tarot deck as a guide to help me in life. To me personally I don’t want to use tarot cards for any reason other than advice on a spiritual level. I just have a few questions for those with knowledge or experience with tarot cards. My questions consist of the following:
1. How do I properly connect to my deck for a clearer reading?
2. When, where and how would it be best to use my tarots.
3. What is the rule on allowing others to touch my tarot if at all.
4. How do I properly do a tarot reading.
5. Where/how should I keep my tarots for storage?
6. How do I properly read each card via their meaning (other than studying… more on the lines of intuition).
7. This is a weird question but should I gain like a spiritual bond with my deck (treating the tarots like a close friend or an extension of myself)?

Please and thank you for any tips. Namaste

The left-hand path leads to deceit. Always has, always will dude… You’re treading upon grounds that make you susceptible and vulnerable to the demonic forces controlling it…

Suggestion by Vin
Take the deck out of the box..
Throw them into a fire..
Watch them burn..
Move on with your life..

Tarot cards are for the feeble minded….

Suggestion by cheir
Tarot cards are used for divination, expressly condemned by the Bible. Any spiritual connection through them will be with the demonic.

Spirit mediums and psychics (and yes Tarot readers are also included) should be avoided at ALL COST. We know this because we have the Divine education of Jehovah Gods word, The Bible. So with all this in mind let us take a look at how our Heavenly Father looks on and views this weighty matter.

    GALATIANS 5:19-21

19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, and they are fornication, uncleanness, loose conduct, 20 idolatry, practice of spiritism, enmities, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, contentions, divisions, sects, 21 envies, drunken bouts, revelries, and things like these. As to these things I am forewarning YOU, the same way as I did forewarn YOU, that those who practice such things will not inherit God’s kingdom.

    LEVITICUS 19:31

31 “‘Do not turn yourselves to the spirit mediums, and do not consult professional foretellers of events, so as to become unclean by them. I am Jehovah YOUR God.

    DEUTERONOMY 18:10-12

10 There should not be found in you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, anyone who employs divination, a practicer of magic or anyone who looks for omens or a sorcerer, 11 or one who binds others with a spell or anyone who consults a spirit medium or a professional foreteller of events or anyone who inquires of the dead. 12 For everybody doing these things is something detestable to Jehovah, and on account of these detestable things Jehovah your God is driving them away from before you.

So as you can see from the Scriptures above, conducting or taking part in this practice is a detestable thing to Jehovah God (PSALMS 83:18) and should be avoided.

    Namaste, Sapphire Prince.

Give yourself time to get acquainted with the cards. Before you read the meaning for any of them, first study the card and get in touch with what it means to you…how it feels…take notes on your ideas. Spend time with each card. The symbology of the picture is a more direct connection to your spirit self than is the written description.

There are many books that can guide and teach you about the cards. Such a book is as good an investment as are the cards themselves. (I am sure you can search and find much online)

There are many ways to lay out the cards. It is best to start with a simple one. Your book will guide you with that also.

For readings, it is good to calm and relax yourself. Turn off the phone. Soft music is nice. Incense adds to the ambiance. You may use the smoke from the incense to cleanse your cards of any negative energy before you start your reading. Use your gut feeling to determine who may handle your cards.

Storing the cards in something such as a pouch keeps them protected and gathered together. I wrap mine in a piece of silk.

I don’t particularly feel a spiritual bond with the cards. I believe the cards are a tool that gives me a closer spiritual bond to myself and to the Universe. I value and protect helpful tools.

You may want to display a card or two where you can see it each day to draw to you more of what the card depicts or to remind yourself of a goal.

The cards are often wonderful pieces of artwork. There are so many different styles. You may find you want more than one deck. Enjoy!

    namaste dude,
now, about the toy cards you bought, you might as well have bought a ouija board.
cardboard and your imagination does not tell the future.
only waiting until the future has happened will you know what the future was.
all other claims to see into the future are obvious crap, and any intelligent person can figure that out.
now, unless you want everyone to know what a fool you are, I’d suggest you go back to trying to think rationally.

You’ll need to get a decent deck–there are many out there. You’ll also need to get at least one good book to help you, but like decks there are some bad ones out there as well.

I always suggest getting the Rider-Waite-Smith deck (aka Rider Deck, aka Rider-Waite deck). The versions I like the best have the Magician on the cover in a yellow box, and it comes in different sizes–I prefer the normal size. The “Original Rider Waite Tarot Pack” is decent as well but the colors are a bit duller. I do not go for any other Rider-Waite-Smith deck as many of them are clones and have been redone or recolored by other artists.

There are some other good decks as well, but I suggest that deck as it’s always been my favorite and I own numerous decks. Also, the RWS deck was the first to put pictures on the pip cards (1-10 in the 4 suits). Instead, the other decks that came before the RWS deck had symbols in a pattern that are similar to a playing card deck. The RWS deck has full pictures on all of the cards and this can help the reader learn more definitions and meanings to the cards, and can also help their intuition by studying the pictures when doing a reading.

The book I suggest as one of your first is called “Power Tarot” it is a very good book and has meanings for the cards for all areas of life (work, finances, romance, etc.), and many books do not have that as they give some keywords a lot of times. You can study the little white book that comes with the deck too, but generally they are laughable and aren’t worth much as far as readings go. However, with more experience you’ll learn that you have entirely different meanings from books or expanded meanings. Books only help so much with learning the Tarot, and then you must be willing to experiment with what the cards say to you.

I must tell you that Tarot is a wonderful and accurate tool, but it is not something you can go into and think you’re going to know how to do readings in a matter of minutes or days. Tarot takes years and any reader worth their salt will tell you that. I hope your Tarot studies go well because it is a wonderful tool! GOOD LUCK!

I too say, buy a deck. The Raider Wait Deck or Thoth deck are the most popular, but I suggest you look at several decks and see which symbolism resonates with you the strongest. If you can find a local occult/pagan/metaphysics shop, they will normally let you look at the decks and hold a sample deck before buying. Most say learn the book meanings first, but I recommend the opposite. Look at the cards and see what meanings you get from them before looking at the book meanings. This is the unbiased symbolism you get from them. Record that. Compare to the companion book, this is the symbolism given by the author of the cards, which is second most important in my book to the card’s symbolism. Then search out other list of possible symbolism. This is how to become familiar with the cards themselves and should be done in conjunction with reading. The position of the cards in the layout based on the question, or query as it is referred to, impacts the meaning of the card. I recommend starting with general readings for friends or yourself. A daily one card general reading is a great way to familiarize yourself with the general meanings of the cards.

The book that comes with the deck normally also has a couple of layouts in it. Be aware that as you become more comfortable with Tarot you can also create your own. Until then, you can find many layouts on the web. Just do a search.

The cards –any other divination tool–help you concentrate and focus your mind.

Get a set of cards that you like and get a simple guidebook on how to read the cards–sorry, I cannot recommend any. After you become familiar with the standard (book) meanings of the cards, Meditate on each card and think about what it “feels like” and means to you. Do this for a few days. Then begin to do spreads and slowly, you will get the hang of it.

You might also want to try reading tea leaf patterns or buy or make a scrying mirror or crystal. You look into the mirror or crystal and see what mental impressions come up about the person or situation that you are “reading.”
